We had a great first full week in grade two. Your child has been working hard in class and has demonstrated their desire to always do their best.
In Math, we have reviewed addition with 10, place value up to the hundreds place, reading a bar graph, time to the hour, and am and pm. In Language, we have focused on reviewing our phonics chart and reading fluency. We began to review what a sentence is and what makes a good sentence (Capital letters and punctuation). In the coming week we will review grade one concepts in grammar such as the noun and verb. In Social Studies, students packed their bags and have embarked on a “Trip” across Canada to review the geographical location and symbols of each province. Once we have visited each province, our Social Studies for Grade two will focus on the physical regions across Canada.
Planting Kindness
At GCS, creating well-rounded students includes much more than academics. In an effort to teach students to look outside themselves to the needs of others or the greater community. Each elementary class will be choosing a way to give back or help others in need. In Grade two, we decided that we would collect new or gently used newborn sleepers and hats for the babies in unit 4 at the QEH. Your child can send their donation into class by September 27th. We will ensure that the sleepers and hats are delivered to the QEH that week.
Terry Fox Run
On Wednesday, September 29, Grace Christian School will participate in its twenty-first annual Terry Fox School Run. In their respective cohorts at scheduled times, students will run, jog or walk laps of the school soccer field in tribute to Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.
Students will not be canvassing for pledges but donations will be gratefully accepted beginning Sept. 23rd until Sept. 29th by homeroom teachers or through e-transfer. To electronically donate, use the email tuition@gcspei.ca with Terry Fox in the subject line and the student’s name in the message. All funds received will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation to assist in the ongoing fight against cancer.
