Good evening,

It’s hard to believe that we are almost at the end of October.  What beautiful weather we have had this weekend, and I hope you were all able to enjoy it with your family.  Please take note of the following items related to our grade two class this week:

Homework:

Each night students are expected to read for at least 15 minutes.   Please ensure that you are recording the book your child read in their blue folder and sign that they have completed it.  This not only lets me know that your child is completing their homework each night, but also gives me a good list of the types of books the grad two class is interested in reading.   Along with reading, please practice your child’s spelling list each night.  Students can choose to write it out twice each night, or there is a list on alternative ways to practice at the bottom of each list.  Should your child choose another way to practice their list, please indicate this in their spelling homework folder.    Mrs. McGonnell sends the current Bible verse home in their blue folder.  Please have your child practice this each night as well.

This week in Grade Two:

Math: Students will continue to review addition facts to ten and have began to study subtraction within ten.  Students will review place value and will begin two digit addition.

Language Arts:   We will review phonics Chart 8 and begin Chart 9.  Students will review subject, predicate, noun, verb and article.  We will also begin learning about the four types of sentences.

Social Studies:  Students will continue their trip across Canada to review the geographical location of each province, and to review the main symbols of each province.  This week we will finish the three Territories on Monday and begin our final region of Atlantic Canada on Thursday.

Dressing for the Weather

Please check the forecast for each day and ensure that your child is coming to school prepared for outdoor play. Although the “high” temperature for the day may seem comfortable, morning recesses are often still on the cool side. Extra socks are strongly recommended due to wet grass on the playground. It is far better to come with more than is needed than to come without and need what we don’t have.

Christmas Concert: Mrs. Wilting has sent out guidelines for this year’s Elementary Christmas Musical Production when it comes to dress code.  She is asking that all elementary students wear black pants and long sleeve black shirts.  We will be recording our performance again this year, and this will occur during the mid November.  Mrs. Wilting has asked that all students pack their performance wear in a Ziplock bag, labelled with your child’s name, by November 9th.
