Good evening,
I hope you all had a great weekend. This week is Science and Technology week! Wednesday is dress up like a STEAM professional day. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Art. Students are welcome to dress up in any profession that uses some of the above (nurse, doctor, detective, scientist, engineer, artist, mechanic, construction worker, astronaut, archeologist, vet, etc). Please take note of these other items related to our grade two class this week.
This week in Grade Two:
Math: Students will continue to review addition facts to ten and have began to study subtraction within ten. Students will continue to practice counting money and combining coins. We will also learn about bar graphs, both vertical and horizonal.
Language Arts: We continue to review phonics 7 and begin Chart 8. Students will review subject, predicate, noun, and verb. Students will learn about the article. In reading, students will be guided through how to do a five finger retell (setting, characters, beginning, middle and end) of a story they read.
Social Studies: Students will continue their trip across Canada to review the geographical location of each province, and to review the main symbols of each province. This week we will be “travelling” to the three Territories.
Science and Technology Week – October 18-22
It’s that time of year again when staff and students of GCS celebrate our Creator and the wonder of science! We have lots of activities planned for next week, including a robotics demonstration, a 3D design challenge, and chemistry stations. Please note that Wednesday, October 20 is Dress like a STEAM Professional Day (STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). That means that your child can come to school dressed as a person in any occupation that would use these disciplines. It is sure to be a fun-filled week of learning!
