Operation Pollination Update

We had a wonderful collection week with four full large recycling bags of cans and bottles donated! We are thrilled with this haul, as it brings us so much closer to our goal!

Our baby plants are doing very well. Our lupines are just about ready to be transplanted into larger pots! Once we do this, each student will get to bring a pot home.

We ARE still collecting empty pop cans/pop bottles/juice boxes; please note that milk containers are not refundables. As the weather warms up, the thought of soon being able to transplant our seedlings has us very excited, indeed!! We have approximately $40 in reserve right now, which has been earmarked for use towards the purchase of (hopefully) a flowering bush that we will also be bale to plant here at school.

GCS Shirts

Well, our Elementary Track and Field Event sadly got spoiled by a downpour of rain! Several students were provided with a t-shirt to change into so that they wouldn’t have to stay completely soaked for the afternoon. If your child is one of those students, please wash and return the t-shirt to school next week.

Spelling Quizzes

We have only 2 Spelling Lists left in this school year! We will be working on List 29 next week. The list was introduced after Friday’s Spelling quiz, and students are strongly encouraged to being practicing over the long weekend. The quiz for List 29 will be on Friday, May 27th.

Dress Code Reminder

With the change in seasons, and as your children continue to grow out of their clothing that fit them last fall, we wish to provide you with this reminder.
As stated in the GCS Handbook the school’s overall dress code standard is modest, clean, neat, and appropriate. Shorts and skirts must not be shorter than just above the knee, which is typically to the tips of the fingers on most children. Girls are permitted to wear sleeveless shirts as long as the straps are wider than three finger widths (please no shirts with thin spaghetti straps). Clothing with a rebellious or negative message are considered dress code violations.

All kindergarten and elementary students must have a second pair of shoes to be worn inside. According to provincial regulations, kindergarten and elementary students are required to wear socks at all times while at school. Sandals are not permitted for this reason.

We are thrilled to see our elementary students wearing GCS apparel on a daily basis. We are even more excited when we see our parents embracing their GCS pride and purchasing clothes for themselves. For those wishing to purchase GCS apparel, please visit one of our online clothing stores at https://allstarcresting.ca/gcs_apparel/shop/homeor http://gracecs.entripyshops.com/. New items are being added regularly.

GCS Arts Festival
We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating the Arts program in person this year at our GCS Arts Festival.  Please join us on Thursday, May 26 at 7pm.

The students in grade 7-9 will be performing on stage as individual classes and in a grand finale piece together as a large group. The Knights Jazz band will also be performing.

In addition to this performance, the GCS Student Art Walk will be displayed for viewing on May 26 and 27 from 2:45pm-3:30pm, and following the performance on May 26. We are excited to announce that our Art Walk will include a selection of student art that can be purchased to support our visual arts program. This is a great way to show support to our amazing artists at GCS from Kindergarten through Grade 12!
