Another week into March and just the week before March Break. Look ahead to see what is coming up this week and some fun activities that are planned.
Book Report
Most students should be finished, or almost finished, in preparation for our book reports. I shared with students on Thursday the plan to have a “Book Buffet”. The basic idea it that students will create a “food” with each piece having a part of their book reports on them. I have a number of photos and a description on Seesaw that they can access so you can see some ideas. This is meant to be a fun, creative way for them to share their reports. We will discuss it more on Monday, with plans to work on the writing part on Monday-Tuesday and the other days for the creative parts. If you child comes prepared, works efficiently, and stays focused, much of this assignment should be completed in class.
Mathletics Competition
Get your math brains on, students! The elementary classes have entered a national competition through Mathletics, an award-winning interactive site that aims to improve math skills through fun activities linked to the Canadian curriculum. Students earn points by completing activities and answering questions in Live Mathletics competitions. We are hoping the enthusiasm surrounding this competition grows and will help to increase our students’ math skills. And, who knows? We may even win a prize.
The details:
Earning Points
Skill Quests (Quests)
- 1 correct answer = 10 points
- 1 correct test answer = 20 points
- 1 correct “Are you ready” answer = 20 points
Activities (Courses)
- 1 correct answer = 10 points
- 1 correct test answer = 20 points
- 1 correct “Are you ready” answer = 20 points
Live Mathletics
- 1 correct answer = 1 point
- 1 correct bonus level answer = 2 points
Students can do Mathletics activities at home as well as in class. And YES, that means they can do it over MARCH BREAK! As long as they are connected to the internet and not using an offline Mathletics app, the points that they earn will count toward the competition.
