Winter seems to keep making its presence felt, with yet another storm day this past week. Thankfully, our students are very resilient and have been able to keep up with their work despite the extra day at home. I am so very proud of them! As we head into a new week, please take note of the following announcements:
What’s Going On
This week in Math, the students will learn about adding/subtracting measures (when the units of measure are different) and creating equivalent fractions. In Language Arts, we have been learning about writing summaries using the novel Secret in the Maple Tree. In Social Studies, we will continue our study of North America by researching the natural resources and major industries of the continent.
Love of Reading Week
What fun it was to have so many students participate in the the daily themed days this past week! Students were sent home with Heart Charts as a reading challenge, and they are strongly encouraged to spend extra time reading over the next few weeks so that they can fill up that chart! Each heart should be initialed for every ten minutes spent on reading. Mrs. Biech will check in to see how everyone is doing with this challenge.
Winter Storms and Dressing for the Weather
I appreciate seeing more students coming to school with appropriate outdoor play gear. I will continue to remind everyone to be sure to come prepared until our winter season has passed. Hats and mittens/gloves are a must! Many students who go without either (or both) of these items complain of sore ears and burning hands once they return to the classroom.
Out of the Classroom
I will be out of the classroom Monday morning for an appointment, but I should be back for the afternoon. Mrs. Chanda Bissett will be replacing me.
