As we head into another week, please take note of some important events coming up:
Poetry Day
The class has been getting ready to present the poems they have chosen to their classmates. To help your child, have them to practice out loud, with expression. I will be looking for their ability to memorize, express the content of the poem, and discuss any rhyme, rhythm, and what they enjoy about the poem. We will be looking at this in class this week so they are ready for Friday.
Independent Book Report
Students have enjoyed our class novel studies and will now have the opportunity to choose a book of their own to read for our next book report. I would like to challenge each child to read a book of at least 100 pages and very few pictures. They will have until this Friday to have their books approved by me. They will have until Thursday, April 2 to have the book completely read so we can work on the book reports. The nightly reading home will be a great opportunities to read the novel and do the chapter summaries.
Ski Day
On Wednesday, March 4, our class will be heading to Brookvale for a day of skiing. New permission slips have been sent home and any yellow slips and money I received will be put toward this trip. If you have not sent in the two slips and payment, please do so before Wednesday. Please make sure your child has the appropriate snow gear and has a lunch that does not require a microwave.
Chocolate Bar Bingo (Take 2)
On Thursday, March 5, all GCS families are invited to Chocolate Bar Bingo from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. This will be a fun event for the whole family! Each person participating in Bingo must bring a full-sized chocolate bar to play.

This year’s event is hosted by the 2020 Jamaica Mission Team. Besides bringing a full-size chocolate bar, please plan to give a donation to help support the team as they prepare to minister to the people of Jamaica in May. This is not a GCS supervised event, so all children must be supervised by a parent to attend. We look forward to seeing everyone out Thursday night!
