Good evening. Please take note of the following announcements regarding events this week.
March MATH-ness Competition
Get your math brains on, students! The elementary classes have entered a national competition through Mathletics, an award winning interactive site that aims to improve math skills through fun activities linked to the Canadian curriculum. Students earn points by completing activities and answering questions in Live Mathletics competitions. We are hoping the enthusiasm surrounding this competition grows and will help to increase our students’ math skills. And, who knows? We may even win a prize.
The details:
Important Dates
- Competition Begins: March 3, 2019
- Competition Ends: March 30, 2019
- Winners Announced: April 4, 2019
Earning Points
Students can earn points through:
- Curriculum Activities
- 10 points per correct answer within curriculum activities up to a maximum of 300 points per activity per week
- 20 points per correct answer within a test (Are You Ready? or Topic Test) up to a maximum of 600 points per week
- Live Mathletics
- 1 point per correct answer
- 2 points per correct answer on a starred level
Prizes!
The top three schools with the highest average number of points per student will win prizes. However, Mrs. Bouter is also offering a prize for the student from each grade who earns the most points throughout the competition!
Students can do Mathletics activities at home as well as in class. And YES, that means they can do it over MARCH BREAK! As long as they are connected to the internet and not using an offline Mathletics app, the points that they earn will count toward the competition.
Happy math-ing!
