I hope you are all enjoying this weekend so far and that you have found some time to rest and refresh. The grade four students are going to be learning about metric measures of length in Math. In Social Studies we will be starting our Christmas Around the World unit in which students will be learning about holiday traditions in different countries and then conducting their own research project. To go along with Social Studies, for the next few weeks in Digital Literacy we will learn about how to perform web research, make citations, and avoid plagiarism.
This week is report card week at GCS; however, it will look a little different from previous years so please read the following announcements and send me any questions you may have.
My School Management – Access to Report Cards
Each family has access to GCS’s online school management system (MSM) at gcs.myschoolmanagement.com. Logging into it will allow parents to view upcoming assignments, tuition balances, student grades (in select courses in elementary), and view quarterly report cards this year. If you do not know your login information, you can visit the previous link and click “having problems logging in”, enter your email address, and the system will send you instructions on resetting your password; this will work even if you have not logged into MSM before. Report cards will be published ONLY in My School Management this year, so you must log in to your account in order to view them. We suggest that you ensure that you can log in well before the report card day on November 19. If you have any login problems, please email Mr. Ellis (jellis@gcspei.ca) for more assistance.
Usborne Literacy Fair
It is time once again for our Annual Usborne Literacy Fair. This event has typically allowed our school library and classrooms to receive hundreds of dollars worth of books for free. The fair will be running throughout this week into parent-teacher conferences. Please be looking for a further announcement that will provide more details for placing your order.
A Note from Mrs. Biech – Novel Study
This week we will begin our first class novel study of the year. Students will have nightly reading that they will be expected to complete each evening in preparation for the next day’s lesson. Please encourage these readings to be completed to allow your child to be successful each day.
Costumes for the Christmas Presentation – TOMORROW!
All students in grades 1-6 will need some type of clothing to complete their costume for filming our first ever online Christmas presentation. The grade four class will be shepherds and sheep. Shepherds are asked to bring a light blue, beige or grey solid long sleeve shirt and dark pants. Sheep will need a black or white long-sleeve shirt and dark pants. If you have any extra things like a walking stick, stuffed sheep, or a robe that you think would be suitable for a costume, please have your child bring these items to school for November 16. Please label each item so it can be returned to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please email jwilting@gcspei.ca. Thanks!
