Being Victoria Day weekend, I hope you will all enjoy the extra time with your family and friends.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 22 at 9 AM.

Dementia Project Congrats

I am incredibly proud of my students for the time, energy, and focused effort they put into creating products that could be engineered to assist individuals with dementia ans improve their quality of life.  If you were unable to view the students’ presentations, please check out our school Facebook Page.  I think you will agree with me in saying that our future is in good hands.

Elementary Track Day

This Tuesday, students in grades 3-6 will attend a half-day track and field event at UPEI.  Each student will participate in various events with the hopes of qualifying for provincials and the ACSI Track Meet later this month.  Students will be travelling by bus – leaving the school at noontime and returning by 3 PM.  Students should return their permission slip by Tuesday morning and come prepared with proper gym wear, sneakers, and a water bottle.

Annual Golf Challenge:

The annual GCS Golf Challenge is just a couple weeks away! This is a GCS event that has been a great fundraiser for many years. The tournament will take place on Saturday, June 2nd at the Clyde River Golf & Country Club. Registration and sign in will be between 7:00am – 7:45am, and the Shotgun start at 8am.The entry fee is $100.00 per person OR $400.00 per team (4 golfers). Students under the age of 18 can enter for a fee of $75. Each entry fee includes the following:

  • Green Fee
  • Cart Rental
  • Sleeve of Balls
  • Gift Certificate for a Warrior Hybrid or Wedge
  • Complimentary Snacks & Drinks on the course
  • Surf ‘n Turf lunch (Mussels & Steak) after the round
  • $40.00 charitable receipt (per entrant)

The tournament format is Scramble Foursome. This format requires each golfer on the team hit a drive. The results of the drives are compared and the best is selected. That ball is selected and marked, and the other golfers on the team pick up their golf balls and move them to that location. The second strokes are played, and the process repeats: Select the best ball, move the other balls to that spot and play the third strokes. And so on, until the ball is holed for one team score.

This event is a great opportunity to bring the GCS community together and to raise funds for the school. This year, the proceeds from our golf challenge will be used to support our BUY A BRICK campaign which will provide infrastructure to allow for greater growth in enrollment and provide for the future success of our students in the disciplines of academics, athletics, technology, the arts, music, and English language acquisition.

In addition to participating in the Golf Challenge, there are opportunities to sponsor a hole at the event. There are four levels of sponsorship available (Bronze – $500, Silver – $1000, Gold – $1500, and Platinum – $2500) and each level has its benefits, however, full receipts for sponsorship will be provided.

For more information regarding registration or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Michaela Arthurs at admin@gcspei.ca. We are looking forward to a great day of golf with the GCS community!
