In honour of Giving Tuesday, a global movement that encourages the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges, GCS students are giving back to the 120 residents living at Prince Edward Home.
When COVID-19 first impacted our province back in the Spring of 2020, some of the most vulnerable were left without the opportunity to leave their homes. Many seniors were also left without the companionship of their families, and therefore, they relied heavily on support, love, and generosity of the caretakers inside their care homes.
In the past, students from GCS would visit several Island senior homes to sing Christmas carols and deliver warm Christmas wishes. Due to the limitations brought about by COVID-19, our students have been unable to physically visit. However, this Christmas, each student purchased specific items with their own money for the residents at Prince Edward Home.
Today, we were honoured to deliver over $2500 worth of gifts for the residents to open on Christmas morning. Learning through service allows our students to move their focus from themselves to the needs of others. Not only does this expand their sense of compassion for others, but also allows them to demonstrate how Christ can use anyone to make a difference regardless of their age.
‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ (Acts 20:35 b)
